A little about acupuncture:

Simply put, acupuncture treatments feel amazing!  When is the last time you went to the doctor's office and actually felt more relaxed immediately after leaving?  Yes, acupuncture does use tiny needles, but we are talking teeny tiny, the width of a hair.  Most first timers to acupuncture cannot believe how "it doesn't even hurt".  The needles are so thin they bypass the skin's pain receptors and go right to accessing the  healing energy of your body.  In addition, acupuncturists are trained for two years before even using a needle with a patient and then an additional two years practicing acupuncture in a supervised clinic before taking board exams for national licesensure.

Acupuncture works with the body's natural ability to heal itself.  It's similar to when you get a cut, the body knows exactly what to do without your thinking about it.  The body is an intelligent system and with acupuncture we can work with it.  There are over 365 acupuncture points on the body that are used in Chinese medicine.  Points are selected unique to the individual and condition.  Each point will work with a different organ system and deliver a message of how to function properly.  For example, there is a commonly used point on your leg to strengthen your digestive system and clear foggy headed fatigue.

You will likely experience positive change after your first treatment, but you will see effective and lasting results sticking with acupuncture regularly for a series of treatments.  We want to keep consistently delivering the message to the body to establish new patterns of functioning before your body has time to return to the old way of being (see chart below).  The number of treatments varies by factors such as age, how long you've had the condition, and lifestyle additions such as diet and herbs.  Treatments are usually recommended weekly until the symptoms have stabilized.  At that point, treatments may be continued weekly until the condition is completely gone or start to be spaced out to bi-weekly for maintenance care.  Many patients continue to come in once a month even after they are completely symptom free because of how well their health and body feels with regular acupuncture.
