A Little Bit About Acupuncture:
Simply put, acupuncture treatments feel amazing! When is the last time you went to the doctor's office and actually felt more relaxed immediately after leaving? Yes, acupuncture does use tiny needles, but we are talking teeny tiny, the width of a hair. Most first timers to acupuncture cannot believe how "it doesn't even hurt". The needles are so thin they bypass the skin's pain receptors and go right to accessing the healing energy of your body. In addition, acupuncturists are trained for two years before even using a needle with a patient and then an additional two years practicing acupuncture in a supervised clinic before taking board exams for national licesensure.
Acupuncture works with the body's natural ability to heal itself. It's similar to when you get a cut, the body knows exactly what to do without your thinking about it. The body is an intelligent system and with acupuncture we can work with it. There are over 365 acupuncture points on the body that are used in Chinese medicine. Points are selected unique to the individual and condition. Each point will work with a different organ system and deliver a message of how to function properly. For example, there is a commonly used point on your leg to strengthen your digestive system and clear foggy headed fatigue.
What to Expect:
The recommended course of treatment we will discuss at your first appointment and my goal is to evaluate everyone individually and work with your needs. To give a ballpark of recommended frequency with acupuncture: 4-6 weekly sessions for recent conditions (sometimes twice a week for pain), and 8-12 weekly sessions for more chronic conditions. We then space treatments to bi-weekly for a couple more sessions to make sure we’ve created new patterns that are lasting. If your body is able to hold symptom free during that time then, we can continue bi-weekly or move to once a month depending on preference. Many people love continuing to come once a month to relax, restore, take a nap, and focus on preventative healthcare!
Beginning on a new step of your healing journey is exciting and I’m happy to support you! Come with an open mind and together we can reach new levels of your healing process. During your first appointment we will have a longer intake where I will be looking at your whole health picture- body, mind, spirit. We will see where symptoms interact, how long they have been present, and how those symptoms may be pointing to a deeper root pattern. Using acupuncture, herbal medicine and other lifestyle suggestions, we can establish a treatment plan to help bring healing and balance to your whole system. If you are just looking for help with something more acute and physical, like a sprained ankle, we can do that too. All appointments include acupuncture, and while I may be thinking about herbal options or other recommendations during your intake, deciding to incorporate them is totally up to you. In some cases I will highly recommend incorporating them into your wellness plan to help us keep the body in healing mode between treatment sessions. Herbal medicine is purchased at a separate cost.
